Introduction

An art market's dynamics operate on the quality of art creation and consumers' demand for it. The interdependent relationship between the supply and the demand relies on a healthy environment with increasing awareness of art and more importance attached to art consumption. A choice other than fine arts museums and commercial galleries, art banks are business model worth discussing since their leasing schemes bring art closer to people's life. Taiwan Art Bank is a Ministry of Culture initiative undertaken by the National Taiwan Museum of Fine Arts (NTMoFA). To further promote Art Bank's vision, match operation with market need and find innovative marketing models, we're organizing the 2016 Forum on International Trends of Art Banks, where professionals from Canada, Australia, United States and the UK will be invited to talk about Practices of Art Bank Operation and Management, Art as a Powerful Diplomatic Tool. The forum will serve as a platform for more exchanges and cooperation, giving us an opportunity to better understand, in the context of different countries, art bank management strategies and practices, benefits of art leasing to cultural diplomacy, and what and how government policies could support talented artists.
